Steve Eggleston reports:

Hippity Hip Hooray for Seed Sovereignty

Sandwiched between Thanksgiving and Christmas last year, a wonderful thing happened. On December 17, 2018, 121 members of the United Nations showed some courage and foresight: they approved (over 8 nays and 52 abstentions) the Declaration of the Rights of Peasants and other People Working in Rural Areas.

We at Positive TV love this Otherworldly Gallery in Talum, Mexico.

IK LAB, a new contemporary art gallery set to open in Tulum, Mexico, is a fitting addition to the wellness-and-spirituality-loving beachside town. Set within the grounds of the eco-friendly Azulik resort, the space boasts a truly unique character: its walls are curved, its floors undulate, and its massive glass windows and doors are circular, like new moons. Every surface is covered with saplings and vines, sourced sustainably from local jungles, or swaths of smooth faux-concrete whose texture recalls the interior of a shell; living trees and plant life sprout from walls, the ceiling, and the floor. The experience demands mindfulness—you must be barefoot inside, and if you’re not careful, you could lose balance, or worse, trip over a work of art.

Herman Hesse on Trees:

For me, trees have always been the most penetrating preachers. I revere them when they live in tribes and families, in forests and groves. And even more I revere them when they stand alone. They are like lonely persons. Not like hermits who have stolen away out of some weakness, but like great, solitary men, like Beethoven and Nietzsche. In their highest boughs the world rustles, their roots rest in infinity; but they do not lose themselves there, they struggle with all the force of their lives for one thing only: to fulfill themselves according to their own laws, to build up their own form, to represent themselves. WHERE DO HUMAN RIGHTS BEGIN? IN SMALL PLACES CLOSE TO HOME. Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home – so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. [continue reading…]
