Dame Ellen MacArthur – sustainability champion

Dame Ellen MacArthur has set up a new foundation to work with education and business to inspire people to re-think, re-design and build a sustainable future.

In 2005, Dame Ellen broke the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe and she said that it was on that voyage, when she had to live with limited resources, that she fully understood the need for sustainability.

The  Foundation seeks to provide “a framework for change through inspirational content, education programmes and communication…/” It aims to help seed the future economy with people who have  the knowledge and skills to build a sustainable future”.

Ellen MacArthur launches her next global challenge

Yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur has set herself a new long-distance challenge – creating an educational foundation to promote sustainability.

Now retired from racing yachts, she has committed herself to changing attitudes towards the planet’s finite natural resources.

She wants to persuade young people and businesses to re-think how they use and design products.

“The foundation will be a catalyst for change,” she says.
