World Peace Day observed in Nepal

KATHMANDU — Nepal in the past was once known as the “Land of Peace”, and it had enjoyed the high recognition for long time.

However, things changed. The political instability in nation created a flux, and violence rose in the past two decades. Millions of people lost their lives, millions were displaced and the aftermath of such violence has not yet been removed from the minds and hearts of the people.

A Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in 2006, ending the decades long polical war and conflict with agreements to end or refrain from any violent activities.

But the post-war impact still finds its place amongst the people. The political stability is far from being achieved at any instant point, which causes an impasse amongst the public.

The constitution has time and again failed to be formed. The economy of the nation has degraded and all the development figures shows a downward progress. Peace, prosperity, political stability and law and order is what the public has been demanding.

The nation along with other nations of the world marked Sept. 21 International Day of Peace. “Peace and Constitution, Our Future ” was the main theme of this year’s World Peace Day.

Speaking at a program, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal called upon all sides to honestly work for the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA).
